Worship at St. Matthias this Sunday
Dear Folks of St. Matthias,
We are all aware of the many precautions and closings throughout the state and country in response to the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus. Today, the National Cathedral and all parishes in the Diocese of Washington announced they will close for the next 2 weeks. In Birmingham, we are beginning to see churches of all denominations cancelling programs and worship. I would imagine the same is true in Tuscaloosa. Even though Alabama is one of only 6 states with no reported cases, we can anticipate that may well change in the next few days. On Friday, Jacquie Caron, our Senior Warden, and I will be making a decision about our Sunday worship at St. Matthias. If we continue with our worship as scheduled, I want to encourage everyone to make the right decision for them. If you need to stay home, then stay home. If you can come to Church, know that we will have hand sanitizer for everyone. In the meantime, let me suggest 2 good links for news and spirituality:
You can get up to the minute updates on state and local response, cancellations and closings from AL.com at https://www.al.com/news/ f80301-coronavirus-covid19-in- alabama-what-you-need-to-know- now.html
The National Cathedral will broadcast online a celebration of the Holy Eucharist this Sunday and Presiding Bishop Curry will preach. You can watch that service and find many more good resources at https://cathedral.org/
Faithfully,
David
