A Trio of Saint Luke's!

St. Luke's Birmingham, AL

It all started because I could not hear the sermon...

No I wasn't preaching, Corey was.  Corey Jones, my colleague and good friend, was obviously making some good points and getting some laughs. But, at Saint Luke's if you are sitting behind the preacher, it just doesn't work.  I am deaf in one ear and Phyllis says I don't listen all that well out of the other, so all I was getting was bits and pieces.

Well anyway, on Monday I listened to Corey on YouTube.  After all, the man has an Emmy and so there was bound to be something worth "borrowing" for a future homily.  Saint Luke's online is easy to find and the link is below.  Corey's sermon is really good and it is probably the only time a 1965 Ford Shelby GT 350 has been used to illustrate the Gospel.  Why would you want to keep God's love in the garage?

So you can listen to Corey's Sermon by clicking here HERE! or going to

He starts preaching at around 27 minutes and 49 seconds.

BUT, the story continues.  There also popped up several other St. Luke's on YouTube.  Since I was already in a sermon listening kind of mood, it made sense to keep going.  I listened to a bunch but there were 2 that stood out.

Benjamin Shambaugh at St. Luke's in East Hampton, NY gave me one of those AHA moments when he said,

"Jesus didn't die because of a plan of God, but because the people could not accept the plan of God."

You can listen to his sermon at St. Luke's East Hampton or goto https://youtu.be/s02S1yxDHoY

And then, I came across St. Luke the Physician Episcopal Church in Gresham, OR.  It's a part of Portland where currently it is 78 degrees while we are sweating with 92 degrees in Birmingham.

Anyway, Sara Cosca-Warfield asked the question, "How well do you love yourself?" and invited us to welcome the prophet within.

First time I'd ever heard this approach to Sunday's Gospel reading.  Her sermon also made me think which is one of the best reasons to listen to a sermon online midweek.

To listen to Sara's sermon, click HERE  or go to their website at https://www.saintlukesgresham.org/post/how-well-do-you-love-yourself.

I think I'm going to keep looking for these other St. Luke's Episcopal Churches out there.  Who knows what we will hear and see from our fellow Saint Luker's!
