Divided Together

Proper 15C Luke 12:49-56 August 18, 2019 St. Matthias From now on, five in one household will be divided…            father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, This is one of several places in the Gospels where Jesus talks about division in families over the Christian life.   Why should faith and belief be any different than anything else?   I have noticed that Jesus never says that granddaughters and their grandfather’s will be divided!   But think about all the things that families do disagree about.   My father is a liberal democrat.    His brother – my uncle - in Mississippi is a conservative Republican.   We don’t talk politics at family gatherings.   It’s probably best that way.              But it often seems the world wants us to be divided.   Watch ...

Proper 14C Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16 St. Matthias August 11, 2019 I have been in Houston all week for Papaw Camp.   Our granddaughter, Lydia, had 1 week remaining in her summer vacation before the start of 2 nd grade. You probably know more about this book of the Bible than you think you do.   Remember that song from the 1960’s TURN, TURN, TURN by The Byrds – well the lyrics come from the 3 rd chapter.   It’s the passage that talks about there being a season and time for ev...
